So, what is a Swedish Sponge Cloth?
Swedish Sponge Cloths (or Swedish Dishcloth) are a multi-purpose, reusable cloth that can be used for cleaning in every way you can use a paper towel and conventional sponges for, but better! They are extremely absorbent - one sponge can absorb up to 15 times its own weight in liquid. They are quick drying and naturally anti-bacterial, so no more stinky sponges (honestly, this is such a wonderful aspect of these sponges).
Eco-friendly in every way!
Not only are Swedish Sponge Cloths functional, they are super sustainable. The dishcloth is made of 100% biodegradable material - 70% cellulose from FSC-marked forest and 30% waste cotton (cotton fibres that are too short for the textile industry). Once it’s reached the end of its life, the sponges are easily composted in home or industrial composts. They are also printed using water-based and environmentally friendly ink.
One Swedish Sponge Cloth takes the place of up to 40+ rolls of paper towel. These cloths help cut consumption of paper towels and plastic sponges. They can be washed in washing machines or the dishwasher, boiled on the stove-top and reused countless times.
What can you use them for?
- wiping counters and appliances (safe for granite, stainless steel, and glass!)
- cleaning dishes
- Streak free cleaning of mirrors and windows
- Lay a damp sponge under your cutting board or bowl for extra grip!
- Wipe your baseboards!
- Older and spent sponges are great for cleaning bathrooms
Why our sponge cloths?
Badger & Burke is a brand known for bright and fun colours, sweet and/or ridiculous illustrations and a cheeky sort of irreverence. The cloths themselves are excellent quality, but paired with our designs, they’re just the best (if we do say so ourselves. It’s such a fun way to add a little extra something to your kitchen, while being eco-friendly!

Sponge Cloth Care
Even though they are bacterial resistant, its nice to keep your Swedish sponge cloth fresh! We keep ours clean by running them through our washing machine or dishwasher. You can also boil them for a few minutes on the stove top. We try not to run them through the dryer because they will shrink up a bit, but rest assured they will eventually return to size with regular use, if you have put them in the dryer!
Once the sponge has lived its very long life, it’s as simple as tossing it in the compost bin!
